Round 5 Dewsbury Celtic vs Hemel Stags:
Dewsbury Celtic 42 Hemel Stags 26
Four tries in nine minutes around the hour mark set Dewsbury Celtic up and saw off a determined challenge from the Stags.
Paul Gledhill was the home star, setting up five of his side’s eight touchdowns.
Hemel fought tenaciously, holding a narrow half time lead but, playing up hill after the break, they conceded the initiative as the hosts ran rampant in a fine team effort.
Gledhill’s influence was felt as early as the fifth minute when his sleight of hand put Danny Waters over by the posts, Pat Foulstone converting.
Ashley Fyson forced his way over in the corner for the visitors soon after, Hemel enjoyed their best spell, with Barry John Swindells at the heart of their most productive play, his move from full back to centre reaping him three tries.
His first, ten metres to the side of the posts, which he converted, followed by a 25th minute penalty put the visitors 12-6 ahead until Gledhill again intervened, his fine break and pass putting Aiden Anderson over in the corner.
He then carved out an opportunity for his winger Jack Bradbury, who cut back to the posts for Foulstone to add the extras and restore the home lead.
Three minutes before the break, Hemel hit back, in-form centre Oliver O’Mara extending his scoring run with a weaving run to the side of the posts, Swindells making it 18-16.
A Celtic penalty seven minutes into the second period for offside levelled matters; Celtic then hitting a purple patch with Gledhill again to the fore.
He sent Bradbury in for his second try out wide, Ben Hardacre then landing a quick fire brace.
Hooker Tom Perks, who was excellent throughout then completed the blitz when he sent the supporting Dom Byrnes over by the posts to make it 36-18.
Swindells showed great spirit to cross twice in three minutes late on to narrow the gap to ten points but in the final minute, Graham Dobson was first to react to a loose ball in the Stags in-goal to pounce for the final home try.
